The mod doll with the cool earring!

Twist 'n Turn Casey was one of my favorites as a young girl in the late 1960s. I was fascinated with her shiny gold hot pants and a single dangling earring! In many cases, this earring has tragically turned many Casey doll ears green but my doll avoided that pitfall, somehow. Whew!

Casey is Francie's fun friend who shares the same body mold as Francie Fairchild, Barbie's cousin. This makes it easy for Francie and Casey to raid one another's closets! Casey debuted in 1967 and was produced through 1970. She has the Twist 'n Turn waist, bendable knees and rooted eyelashes.

Unlike the standard long-haired Barbie or flipped-out Francie, Casey featured a blonde or brunette short, edgy, geometric hairstyle that perfectly mirrored the Carnaby Street "Mod" youth culture exploding out of London in the late 1960s. That said, Casey is not from London (that's Twiggy, more later).

The Single Statement Earring

Casey famously wore a single dangling gold triangle earring in her left ear. This asymmetrical, counterculture styling was incredibly bold for a mainstream toy company in 1967.

Casey goes red!

The only difference between the 1967 Casey and the 1968 - 1970 dolls is that the 1967 doll with brunette hair may have oxidized to a reddish color. The brunette hair fiber used during the 1967 production run contained a chemical dye that oxidized over time when exposed to light, air or specific climate conditions. This oxidation permanently changed the hair from dark brown to a striking copper red or auburn shade

Mattel only released one more Casey doll, the 1975-76 Baggie Casey #9000. A final budget release sold in a clear plastic bag, thus, why collectors call her Baggie Casey! This Casey was made using Francie's head mold rather than the original Casey face.

Baggie Casey looks very different from the '60s Casey. Baggie Casey has long, straight blonde hair with non-bend knees and non-twist waist. She wore a two-piece red or pink bikini. There is also a brunette Baggie Francie #7699 who wears a yellow bikini.

Other similar-sized dolls

There was another Francie-sized doll, the 1967 - 1968 Twiggy #1185. She was the first "celebrity" doll based on the '60s top model from London.

Twiggy shares the same body type and a very similar face sculpt/head mold as Casey.

She captured the iconic British supermodel's likeness with a short blonde pixie cut, blue eyeshadow, and heavily rimmed eyes with black eyeliner – a perfect cat eye! A skill I have yet to master, sigh. Any tips, dolls?!

Twiggy received a Style Icon award at The Daily Front Row 2026 Fashion Media Awards on Sept. 11, 2026. Well deserved! The London native (born Leslie Hornby) shot to fame as a model when she was 16, and she not only graced the covers of fashion publications but also became the face of the 1960s androgynous mod look, which she revealed has stuck with her for decades.

Sorry, Becky...

Becky was planned as a new same-size friend for Francie in 1971, using the Casey head mold. Mattel’s plans were far enough along that 1971 fashion packages advertised “teen scene fashions for Francie and Becky,” and Becky appeared modeling Francie fashions in both the fashion booklet and Mattel dealer catalog. However, amid Mattel’s financial troubles that year, the company canceled the doll before she reached production.

2009 Becky gift set

Decades later, Mattel finally brought the elusive prototype to life by releasing an official reproduction Becky doll in a 2009 gift set. Yay, Becky has been resurrected!

Casey had cool items like a 1967 Casey Goes Casual Gift Set #3304. The set paired Casey with a colorful striped dress, floral jumpsuit, hot-pink vinyl coat, pink shoes and her original swimsuit.
