P.J.
Barbie's best friend P.J. was introduced in 1969 as New 'N Groovy Talking P.J. You'd pull a string on the back of her neck and she'd say a number of things like, "Hi! I'm Barbie's best friend P.J.!" Next was 1970's Twist 'N Turn P.J., followed by Live Action P.J., in 1971. She could easily also have been called Woodstock P.J. with the mini braid and swinging purple fringed vest. Right on! The last P.J. to be released during the Mod Era was 1972's Malibu P.J., although she didn't have a Mod look. In 1974, Free Moving P.J. debuted, followed by 1981 Sunsational P.J. and 1983 Sun Gold P.J. Mattel claims the initials P.J. don't stand for anything - it's simply her name!
