1971 Live Action Barbie, Live Action Christie and Live Action P.J.

Live Action Barbie brings me back to when my mom went to Woodstock. In fact, this Barbie is often referred to as "Woodstock Barbie." I purchased Live Action Christie for just $99 on eBay. Isn't she gorgeous?! I was a little nervous because there was only one fuzzy photo of her on eBay. The seller said she was in very good condition but I'd say she's mint! Her head and hair were wrapped in cellophane and the outfit is perfect and complete. I'd say I scored on this one!

I've had Live Action P.J. and Live Action Barbie in my collection for a while so they're happy their last sister Christie joined them. Can you say Dance Party?!
Barbie and P.J. came in two varieties: either with a battery-operated stage or a Touch N' Go stand. Christie only came with the Touch N' Go stand. I had so much fun playing with them as a girl because I could make them dance and, as K.C. once said, shake their booty! That reminds me, I also enjoyed playing with my tambourine as a kid and bouncing around - good times!

Christie is dressed in a funky top with long fringed sleeves, and bell bottoms trimmed in purple suede cloth, accented with an orange scarf in her hair and chunky shoes. (I want this outfit for myself!) Barbie wore a tie dye bell bottom jumpsuit with suede cloth trim and fringe. To complete the look, she wore a suede cloth headband and bracelets with fringe (my doll is missing these).

P.J. donned a red knit mini dress with hose and fab gold fabric boots. A purple suede cloth fringed vest with a golden bead button closure completed her outfit. That's a lot of fringe on these dolls but I've always believed... there's no such thing as too much fringe!  Speaking of, check out these super-cute boots I bought on Shoe Dazzle today!

Christie uses the Midge head mold with rooted lashes and has straight black hair. Barbie uses a body similar to Living Barbie's but with added waist mobility. She has very long rooted lashes and her eyes are centered, not side-glancing. Prior to 1971, Barbie's eyes glanced to the right, but most Barbie dolls released from 1971 on have centered eyes. Live Action P.J. (like Live Action Christie) uses the Midge head mold but has brown eyes and side-parted blonde hair with a cute braid in it.

Which were your favorite Barbies from the 70s? I'm looking for new blog post ideas and want to know what you're interested in! In the meanwhile, do a little dance...

xo, Lynne

Hi there! I've collected Barbie and Friends up to year 1971 and was never really interested in the Live Action dolls. But recently I purchased a lot that included Live Action Barbie, missing only one fringe wristlet. Well guess what....I love her!!! Having worn some fringy suede accessories myself back in the day - I'm nearly 58 - she really appeals to me. And her lovely face with real lashes and perfectly center-parted straight hair (my hair was always too curly for this style), how could I not love her? I think I want Live Action Christie now!

Hi Barbara! I fee ya! I'm more drawn to Mod Barbies (thus my blog site name!) but technically Live Action Barbie and her crew fall into that category since they're from the early 70s. But they're more hippie than mod. : )

You have the Live Action dolls, Pamela. I have Live Action Christie, Barbie and P.J. Recently, I added Live Action Ken to my collection for the complete set, so happy! To get an idea of your dolls' worth, check out the estimates in this blog post for mint/no box. These values are from the book, "Vintage Barbie Dolls" by Hillary Shilkitus James (2011). I'm not aware of a more recently published book with Barbie values. Another option is to check out eBay's sold listings and see what dolls have gone for recently.

Hi would like to make a suggestion that they make a Barbie Beyonce doll swimsuit illustrated because the last Beyonce Barbie doll that I bought they did a poor job making her with that hideous pink gown and the way they style hair and color was awful and her face was awful she didn't appear to have the look of Beyonce and style. Who ever designing these barbies they need to redo Beyonce Barbie doll Beyonce is always stylist whether wearing jeans a hat sunglasses a leather jacket earrings hair styles high heels a designer skirt or a beautiful blouse and gorgeous makeup with the cat eyes . You can get or they can get ideas on her website or other website of Beyonce styles .Please do a Beyonce Barbie doll with orange bikini earrings and her beautiful skin and makeup that she was wearing and her flowing soft waves and curls hair style that she did for swimsuit spots illustrated or go YouTube if you can't find it on the websites that Beyonce did a photo shoot on sports illustrated swimsuit. My kindness regards email me back.

Hi Rose! These are wonderful ideas! You'd have to contact Mattel though, as I do not design Barbie dolls - I just blog about them.

Can Live Action Barbie wear other Barbie clothes? Also, since she has flat feet, what shoes can she wear?
Thanks!

Live Action Barbie fits into all of Barbie's clothes and she doesn't have flat feet. In 2015, the Fashionista Barbie line introduced her with adjustable ankles so she could wear flats. An entire line of flats also debuted.

Thanks for answering my questions. I seemed to remember her having flat feet, so I found a couple of pictures for reference. She came wearing tan flats, and her feet don't look like the regular feet where Barbie is standing on the balls of her feet. Please look and tell me what you think.

I just looked at my Live Action dolls which come wearing flats and their feet do appear flat but there's an ever so slight arch to them. They probably have flatter feet so they can dance on their Touch 'n Go stands. Compared to other Barbie feet, the Live Action feet are flatter. They definitely do not have a high arch. If I had to choose, I'd say the Live Action dolls do have flat feet!

Can shoes like pilgrims and T-straps fit on them, or do they fall off? I have a TNT that I have been getting outfits for, and am wondering if I got a Live Action, if the same outfits would fit, including shoes. Thanks for your help, and for the cool site!

Hi Lynne,

I'm now shopping for a Live Action Barbie, and wanted to know if their knees click three times like other Mod Barbies' do, or just twice. A seller I am dealing with says hers clicks twice, and didn't know anything about them clicking three times. Thanks!
